Carol was diagnosed on her 50th wedding anniversary, around Christmas time in 2010. She is married to a retired Fire Chief and celebrates L.I.F.E. by spending time with her family and friends. As a resident of both Florida and Connecticut, Carol sews, crochets and knits magnificently. Carol has taken it upon herself to distribute the Brace for L.I.F.E. bracelets to other breast cancer survivors to educate them on lymphedema precautions.
The Brace for L.I.F.E. Foundation sincerely thanks Carol for promoting our mission!
When my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, everything was done to ensure she had the best care. She came through her surgery and treatment very well and quickly resumed her active lifestyle; like nothing had ever happened. Then, several years ago she was rushed to the hospital on two separate occasions; both times she was unable to express to the first responders that she is a breast cancer survivor. Because of this, medical treatment was provided on her affected side, putting her at an increased risk of developing lymphedema.
That’s when I realized there is a gap; a gap in communication about lymphedema signs, symptoms and prevention techniques that not only a breast cancer survivor, but also the emergency response team needs to be aware of. This led to the formation of the Brace for L.I.F.E. Foundation. It is our mission to make breast cancer survivors, caregivers, first responders and medical personnel aware, education and take action in the prevention of lymphedema.
